The Film

The Way We Care is a documentary by Catherine Scott. It explores how connection, lasting relationships and belonging shape the lives of children growing up in Australia's out-of-home care system.

Through the lived experiences of young people, alongside the voices of carers, practitioners, families and community leaders, The Way We Care challenges us to consider how might we create the conditions for every child to be loved, to be known, to belong and to be connected to family, community, culture and opportunity.

The film opens the conversation. The community conversations explore where it can lead.

Community Screening and Conversation Series

Protection comes through connection.

At the heart of these conversations is the emerging Child Connection System: a relational alternative to the current out-of-home care system with connection as its north star. It asks how we can create a healthier ecosystem of support around children and families so children can grow up and thrive in safe and secure enduring relationships underpinned by care and belonging.

The Way We Care Community Screening and Conversation Series brings together lived experience, practice, research, policy and community to explore how children, families and communities flourish when relationships are placed at the heart of care.

Each screening is followed by a facilitated conversation with people featured in the film, alongside sector leaders, creating space to reflect, connect and explore practical possibilities for strengthening relationships around children and families.
